Thank you, jailor, for feeding my vessel while it hungered. And to Eddie and his associate, for freeing me from that cell. Its power was suffocating.

Does the cafeteria serve hamburgers and.. [he pauses, considering the the words] "root beer"?

All I know about you is your negligence and great strength, but I see no harm in requesting a number of. I can pick up a tree or bush of any size, weight or height and any place on this ship, so that won't be a concern. I suppose you'll probably ignore this. I won't be offended.

[Castiel details a lengthy list of plants that require all kinds of habitats and climates, from your classic chrysanthemum and wildflowers to venus fly traps, massive redwoods and parasitic vines. He knows all of their scientific names, of course. He's shooting for the moon here.]

[Hoffman is all cop. All cop. He assumes a calm and peaceful expression before looking forward. Don't give away your hand.]

...I admit I got a little testy when I saw how that guy Jimmy had behaved. I do have some questions. I appreciate the openness.

Jimmy still in there?

You won't understand, but I took this vessel with good intentions for it, and for me, but there are things I must do before I return to heaven.

[He pauses, and then meets Hoffman's eyes.]

He is always with me when I occupy his form. His pure soul is what binds my grace to his skin.

Good intentions. [he looks angry] What kind of good intentions? People can have pure souls just fine but eventually he'll figure out your real intention. Using him for what, did you really give him any choices?

Any choices at all?

Is this a question for him, or for me? His soul and blood have been tied to me since before his ancestors were born. The purity of the soul of an angel's vessel is unmatched by any other, except perhaps those fated to have their own individual destinies.

We can't communicate. When I possess his body, he sleeps.

[Hoffman's brow furrows] ...So he didn't get a choice at all? "Fated?" How much was fate and how much is you?

I do not write fate. Angels may be mortals in comparison with the Heavenly Father, who writes the future.

[Castiel says this in a way that adds an unspoken obviously, duh to the end.]

I asked. I told him that he had a great part to play in God's plan. I did not torture, or threaten, or bribe, or blackmail him.

Telling somebody that god told you to to do it is also a kind of manipulation.

[He looks hardfaced, angry and serious.] Promising people that they can do good in favor of some master plan.

Happens more then you'd think.

I told him the truth. If you look ill upon me for that, there's nothing I else I can do.

He did good. We did good.

....It's the idea. I mean you do things for him? Let him see his kids or see the good he's doing?

[So conflicted. John was supposed to show him the "good" that he was doing. His conflict shows on his face as he remembers Paul. He looks angry.]

...If you and he really were partners you'd let him be awake so he could see. What about his family?

I can't.

As a being, I'm simply too mighty to not control his form while I possess it. Unless some room of suppressing energy is tearing at me, it's not possible for him to control his own body while I'm here.

Such visits would be wasted; he's asleep while I control him, and remembers little. I imagine, if he were conscious, he would find it distinctly unpleasant to be crushed under my power.

[He can't buy into this. It's terrible. It's horrible. But he just can't.]

...And you can't let him go until you do this "great work". [frown] you see that's what I don't get.

I have things that must be done, and then I will leave. There's nothing more to "get." While I do those things, he remains safe within me.

...I still say if you cared you could give him a few hours of time to himself.

I know. I've had people treat me that way.

I can't allow that. Not here. It might be impossible for me to return.

[Hoffman's hands clench.]

...You serious? Once you're done with whatever you have to do you'll go?

While I find my vessel to be endearing, I assure you it's quite uncomfortable in comparison to not having to use it. It's not unlike wearing clothing too small for your body.

[He nodded]

...Good.

At least it seems like a fucking....need as opposed to manipulation.

...I don't think I'll be satisfied about this. I mean the guy...you don't say no to an angel. To someone who you think has power. Maybe he didn't realize he had more of a choice.
